Gibsons Care Home to be Officially Named in Fall 2017 as Silverstone Remains with Sechelt
Monday, July 24, 2017
The new Gibsons Care Home, to be built and operated by Trellis Seniors Services (“Trellis”), will be officially named later this year after consultation with the Town of Gibsons (“Town”). “As the land at 571 Shaw Road had been conveyed to the Town by the Christenson family, it is important that we consider the unique history or features of the site when establishing a name”, said Mary McDougall, President of Trellis. Trellis plans to collaborate with the Town to explore naming options.
On July 20th, Trellis announced plans to build a care home in Gibsons to operate the VCH contract for residential care beds on the Sunshine Coast. Since that announcement, it was observed in some news reports that the Gibsons site was referred to as Silverstone or ‘the new Silverstone’. To clarify, Gibsons will have its own name. The Silverstone name is specific and unique to the Trellis location on Derby Road in Sechelt.
Trellis will maintain its rezoning application in Sechelt for Silverstone while awaiting the outcome of the District of Sechelt’s community review process for long term care facilities. Further updates on the future of Silverstone will be provided as more information on the Sechelt study becomes available.
