Gemstone Celebrates 5 Years of Serving Seniors in Kamloops
It seems like it was just yesterday when there was the hustle and bustle of preparing for our first residents to move in. Five years later, (Brocklehurst) Gemstone Care Centre celebrates serving seniors and becoming many people’s first choice for care in the Kamloops community.
This special anniversary event was commemorated with a carnival-themed celebration, where live music, great food, games and a little clowning around were enjoyed by residents, their family members and the Gemstone team!
Gemstone is home to 130 residents who are supported by their family and friends as well as over 160 team members who continually provide exceptional care and service. Sandra Lewis, General Manager, stated that, “At Gemstone, our shared values of teamwork and a passion for learning shine through in the daily compassionate care provided to the residents we serve. We are very proud to celebrate today with many team members who have been part of Gemstone since day one.”
Mary McDougall, President, reflected on Gemstone’s 5-year journey: “Our focus on creating joy in living and aging is very much alive on this day as we celebrate in this playful carnival environment. Our entire team works hard everyday to create joy in living through a variety of events including intergenerational programs and themed celebrations.” Earlier this year, Gemstone created a new staff position –Volunteer & Community Coordinator – to expand the engagement opportunities with Gemstone residents and the broader Kamloops community who care for seniors.
Gemstone’s 5 year history shows a strong commitment to quality and innovation to support our promise of exceptional care and service. During the past 5 years, management and staff have embraced Point Click Care™ and achieved Exemplary Standing with Accreditation Canada. “These are two significant accomplishments we’re all proud of”, said McDougall, “and as a Gemstone family, we’re excited about how we will continue to evolve over the next years ahead”.
