Innovating Sleep Safety at Hamilton Village

Hamilton Village is excited about a new initiative with Tochtech Technologies and EquipCare BC that targets sleep and safety using an innovative, award winning sleep sensor and bed-exit safety device.

The Toch-Sleepsense uses high-precision sensors and algorithm technology to provide real time information on Resident movement and health status. The sensor is placed under the frame of the bed and uniquely detects body movement and vital signs, no matter where the sleeper is positioned and without disrupting sleep, including sending notices to the care team. Additionally, sleep quality data of each resident captured will enable care givers to adjust care plans and add interventions to address sleep issues.

“We are excited to be moving forward with the Sleepsense installation as we have been able to experience first-hand the benefits of Sleepsense for residents and for the care team during the trial period.” said Melissa Bawtinheimer, General Manager, Hamilton Village Care Centre. “This is a new technology and we will be one of very few homes in BC with this system. We completed beta testing it over the past 6 months and we will now be moving ahead to utilize in each Neighborhood.”

Jessica Yang, CEO of Tochtech is delighted by the decision and shares in the commitment by Trellis Seniors to continually improving quality of care for residents and supporting the care team. Mary McDougall, President of Trellis Seniors states that “We sincerely appreciate BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and the EquipCare BC Program as it enables innovative care solutions, like Sleepsense, to be possible and improve quality of life for both residents and staff. This investment is more important than ever as increasing healthcare demands continue to stretch the system.”

Installation of Sleepsense at the Hamilton Village Care Centre, a long term care residence will commence in early February, 2023 and we will continue to evaluate how it enhances safety and quality of life. To find out more about Sleepsense, please visit, www.tochsleepsense.com.
