The Tulip Fields of Hamilton Village
Today, the Hamilton Village Care Centre Team have bright pink cheeks that match the beautiful tulips in the gardens at this Richmond long term care home.
This response stems from a warm feeling of pride coming from kind comments shared by Joan Pham, RN, Clinical Resource Nurse for Vancouver Coastal Health’s Richmond Long Term Care Team.
On a recent visit, Joan had taken a picture of the tulip fields at Hamilton and submitted it for the Regional Palliative Approach to Care Education (RPACE) “Living in Colour” collection of stories to celebrate National Palliative Care Week in May 2022.
In her submission to the stories, Joan states:
“In my short time at Hamilton during these spring blooms, I observed many people making visits out to these “fields” (about 3 generous garden beds at the entrance). There was definitely a buzz of excitement within the home as people asked each other “Have you seen the beautiful tulips outside?” Best of all, there was the joy of observing people pausing to admire and appreciate the infectious beauty the flowers.
The Hamilton Village care team has a culture that really embraces a palliative approach by creating beautiful experiences and celebrations that light people up.
This approach most certainly translates into individual person-centred care – kudos to the team!”
Hamilton Village Care Centre thanks Joan for all that she brings to the home through her specialized knowledge of palliative care and through her huge heart.
Melissa Bawtinheimer, General Manager, confirms that “Our ability to bring passion, creativity and care to the Residents comes from wonderful people, like Joan, who create joy in life and aging at the home.”
